The ‘BARARO’ story
I am a designer from Mumbai who now calls Melbourne - ‘home’. Part of that experience is often getting drawn towards buttery linen garments, carefully crafted jewellery pieces or textured homeware only to see a familiar tag ‘MADE IN INDIA’. This takes me back to my days as an architect, where I spent several hours working with skilled craftspeople, artists, carpenters, electricians and engineers, turning bare structures into living, breathing spaces.
The ‘MADE IN INDIA’ tag is always a trip down this memory lane, making me question the idea of home. I’m reminded of Baarah Road (12th), where I grew up, and the distinct memory of all the neighbourhood streets covered in canopies of Gulmohar trees blooming a glorious red under the warm summer sun. It takes me back to the wooden swing on our balcony overlooking the busy road with familiar faces and the endless banter with the family in the background of the living room, knowing this is how I will always remember my home.
BARARO embodies the essence, the stories of Baarah Road and the joy of finding comfort, representation, and a home away from home through the simple ‘MADE IN INDIA’ tag. BARARO is India inviting the world to the forms, colours and textures of its living room, to the wondrous chaos of its spindly dressing tables, to the warmth and embraced busyness of its bathrooms, to the instant calm of the materials in its bedroom, BARARO WELCOMES YOU HOME.
We are curating a collection of products that are design-forward, celebrate the individual and uphold the artisanal vision of the region we call home.
